City of North Vancouver Approves New Curb Access and Parking Plan

The City of North Vancouver has adopted a new Curb Access and Parking Plan, approved by Council on April 14, 2025, to address outdated parking policies and growing curb space demands. The plan introduces updated parking rates, expanded residential permit options, and new measures to support accessibility and commercial loading. It reflects extensive community input and is aimed at improving fairness, safety, and efficiency in how curb space is used across the city.

Key Details:

  • Parking Rates (Commercial Areas):
    • First 30 minutes: Free
    • Next 30 minutes: $1
    • After 1 hour:
      • $3.00/hour (9am–6pm)
      • $2.00/hour (6pm–9pm)
  • Residential Parking Permits:
    • Expanded eligibility to include more housing types
    • Base permit: $8.33/month
    • Second household permit: $12.50/month
    • New short-term and visitor permits available for homecare workers, contractors, and low-income households
  • Loading and Accessibility Enhancements:
    • More short-term loading zones in busy residential and commercial areas
    • Increased number of accessible on-street parking spaces near key destinations
  • Community Engagement:
    • Developed through two phases of public feedback involving residents, businesses, and service providers
  • Implementation Timeline:
    • Changes begin September 2025 in Lower and Central Lonsdale
    • Parking demand will be monitored and pricing adjusted as needed through 2027
