{July 26th, 2018} - Did you hear? City council approved the new Harry Jerome, and by the renderings it looks pretty great! It's going to include an ice rink, curling rink, 50 metre pool, gym, youth centre, and more. All that isn't cheap though, the initial budget has the project costing $237M!!!!
Until it's built, enjoy the artist drawings below.
City of North Vancouver council voted to move forward with a plan for a new Harry Jerome Recentre! The current Harry Jerome has been at the corner of 23rd and Lonsdale for 50 years, and the move will see the facility cross the street to the North side of 23rd. If you're thinking this sounds expensive, it is. The new facility is budgeted to cost $150-million. Where will that money come from? The City currently has $14-million set aside and can borrow $43-million. The other $93-million? Look for that to come from the redevelopment of the current Harry Jerome site, which is zoned for buildings as tall as 20 storeys.
Council has 2 months to agree on what the new centre will look like.
